The funeral service for Deborah B. Christy, 67, will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2018, in the Waukomis Christian Church with the Reverend Dave Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

 

Deborah Lucy Hudnall was born December 9, 1950, in Sherman, Texas, to Laura Lee (Cooke) Hudnall and Eschol Audie Hudnall and passed from this life at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City, on Sunday morning, May 27, 2018.

At her request, she will be cremated.

 

She graduated from Sherman High School in 1968 and received an associate’s degree in music from Grayson County College, Denison, Texas.

She married Timothy Raymond Bailie November 21, 1970, in Sherman.

She married David Alan Christy November 16, 1974, in the Waukomis United Methodist Church.

They continued to reside in Waukomis, where they raised three sons.

She was a long-time member of Waukomis Christian Church.

Debby was an accomplished vocalist and a two-time Texas All-State Choir honoree and sang in various choirs and ensembles over the years.

Her most memorable moment was singing a solo in Briggs Auditorium during the Enid-Phillips Chorale performance of Handel’s Messiah with the Oklahoma City Symphony.

She also was an accomplished graphic artist and pen, charcoal and water color artist, drawing many portraits for people in the Waukomis and Enid area. 

She also enjoyed working in the garden and creating beautiful flowers.

Debby worked at several jobs over the years, as an editorial cartoonist for the weekly Oklahoma Hornet, Brett Perry Cattle Co. and Goodwin Real Estate in Waukomis; Cromwell’s Printing Co.; Central Machine and Tool; in the registrar’s office at Phillips University; St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center surgery department; part time at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home; and at Northwest Neurology, all in Enid.

Debby had beaten pancreatic cancer for more than two years at the time of her death.

She is survived by her husband David, of the home in Waukomis; three sons, James Marcus Bailie Christy, Kemp, Texas; Andrew Reid Christy, Dillon, Colorado, Alan Michael Christy and daughter-in-law Gina, Oklahoma City; one granddaughter, Paige Christy, Waukomis; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Hudnall Cooper and husband Grier, of Phoenix, Arizona; nephew Grant Scott Cooper and wife Rachel and their children, of Phoenix; a niece, Denise Hudnall Ivone and her family, San Antonio, Texas; an aunt and uncle, Myra and Ken Guebert, of Plano, Texas; a very special cousin that Debby thought of as another sister was Carla Guebert and her husband Charles, of Plano, Texas; sister-in-law Charlotte Manning and nephew Jeff Karr, both of Harrah; sisters-in-law Phyllis Hudnall and Marlene Hudnall, and many cousins, relatives and friends in Waukomis, in Texas and across the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Tim; her brothers, Michael William Hudnall and Paul Thomas Hudnall; and a half-brother, Stephen Earl Hudnall.

 

Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Waukomis Fire & Rescue Assoc., with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
